About

Sarah TuckerSarah Tucker is a freelance journalist in Houston, Texas, with experience in everything from page design and copy editing to online content management and multimedia reporting. She has worked for magazines, newspapers and radio stations in Kansas, Missouri, North Dakota and Texas.

Through her work as a reporter, Tucker has attended bird dog field trials, toured a nuclear power plant and participated in a women’s handgun class. She’s also well-versed in covering the essentials, including city council meetings, elections and police briefings.

Tucker is happiest when she’s in a newsroom or a classroom. Her career goals include producing more feature writing and multimedia and teaching journalism. In May 2014, she received her Masters from the University of Missouri. Her final project looked at the skills convergence students need to be successful in the journalism industry and how the J-School prepared or failed them. In the future, Tucker plans to pursue a PhD in composition and rhetoric, blending her passions for culture, journalism and good writing.

Currently, Tucker works in online communications for the Honors College at the University of Houston and does freelance copy editing and writing for local news, lifestyle and corporate publications. She is the current Treasurer and past-Vice President for the Society of Professional Journalists, Houston Pro Chapter; an associate member of the Journalism and Women Symposium; and an active Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo volunteer, serving on the Magazine, School Art and Parade committees.

She is open to full- and part-time reporting, editing and instructional opportunities and looks forward to expanding her journalism skill set and network.
